Dr Cheah Thien Soong, alias Tian Xin, is an outstanding and renowned ink-painting artist from Malaysia. Based in Malaysia, eyeing the universe armed with vast learning, powerful brush strokes and a unique multi-angled perspective that can be best described as “Chinese Cubism,” he is undeniably a peerless artist in the world of art. Doubtlessly he has mastered the creation of artistic space. His signature masterpieces are infused with living spirit as he captures the lively interplay among universe, man nature. Dr Cheah’s art combines Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. In line with the Taoist concepts of unification of Spirit and Man and the Way of Nature, his artscapes invariably express the oneness of the Cosmos and the Earth. In line with the spirit of the “Jung Yung” ethics of Confucianism, his unrelenting drive for self-cultivation is manifested in the way he pushes his art to the zenith of excellence. The Buddhist concepts of compassion and wisdom, particularly where “from is emptiness and emptiness is form,” become visually manifest. His art maintains deep respect for harmony and perfect balance of the artistic traditions, capturing the inner spirit of both the manifest physical world as well as the unmanifest space. He fuses western and eastern art as well as figurative and the abstract, blazing a new and unique blend of universal art that drenches the viewer with beauty, harmony and bliss. It opens our eyes to an appreciation of the role of contemporary ink-painting and shows us how to find meaning in the modern times. Crossing over from the previous century, Dr Cheah breathes a new life and revitalized in-painting not only of the local artscene but also the Nanyang and international artscene.
